Staycation
A couple of weeks ago, Phoenix did a blog on the increased cost of gas & how it's going to curtail his vacation plans. With gas at $1.30/Litre, it is way too expensive to go on a long vacation drive with the family. So, I did some research; some 'staycation' ideas. Stuff to do at home or very close to home.
For example, pitch a tent in the backyard. Kids love to camp; make it cozy, tell scary stories & if possible, maybe a small campfire (without burning the neighbourhood down) Set dates. Set a beginning & an end to the staycation just as you would a vacation. Schedule daily activities that take you out of the house each day. Don't do chores. Don't make beds. After all, you're on vacation. (as if I made my bed when I was kid anyways). Plan movie nights. Get a list of movies that everyone has wanted to see, pop the popcorn & settle in for some fun. And we live in Alberta; we've got some of the greatest places to go for day-trips to get away, rather than extended trips. Banff is a couple hours away. And the kids would love the Tyrell Museum in Drumheller.
It's summer in the greatest country in the world! Don't let the price of gas spoil you & your kids' fun.
