Hockey

So what's Gary Bettman's problem? He's a bright guy. Well educated (law degree from Cornell University). Lots of experience. So why is he such a bonehead? He absolutely refuses to allow the NHL to expand further in Canada.
His last bonehead move: Telling Jim Balsillie to stick to making Blackberries & stay away from hockey. Balsillie is swimming in money & wanted to buy the Nashville Predators & move them to Hamilton.  But Gary said, no...I gotta guy who's gonna buy the Predators & keep them in Nashville. So,  the guy gets the Predators. Turns out, the guy was:
a) Going to move the team anyways (to another American hotbed of hockey-Kansas City)
b) Under FBI investigation & has just filed for bankruptcy.
Now, the reason Gary so desparately wants to keep the game in hockey hotspots like Nashville & Phoenix, is for the big American TV money. He's right. An NHL Stanley Cup final with the Hamilton 'whatevers' vs the Winnipeg (new) Jets, would draw zero viewers in the US & Gary could kiss the big TV bucks good-bye. But here we are 12 years after the Winnipeg Jets left for hockey-mad Phoenix & the Nords from Quebec became the the Colorado Avalanche, & what's Gary got to show for it? A TV deal with the Outdoor Life Network!
Let's face it; I'm sure Nashville is a nice city, and they know their country music. But they know squat about hockey...& could care less.
Gary...give it up...it's over. Nashville is NASCAR country. Hamilton is hockey country. Winnipeg is hockey country. Quebec City is hockey country.  Kansas City is.....in Kansas Dorothy....I don't know what Kansas City is about, but I know it's not about hockey.
The existing Canadian teams accounted for 31% of the 30 team league's ticket revenue. Gary....do the math. With the exposure you're getting on the Outdoor Life Network (since re named Versus TV) & the money you're foregoing in Canada, it's really a no-brainer. Let the game come home. It's already built....they will come.
