Folk Fest Madness!!!
It's hard to believe that July is almost over - but that means it's THAT time of year again....The Calgary Folk Music Festival!!! 97.7 Calgary FM is a proud sponsor of this year's Folk Festival, and there are some AMAZING acts that are performing. Sam Roberts and Bedouin Soundclash were a couple of the acts that performed on the main stage during the first two days of Folk Fest, and they even dropped by our big red 97.7 Calgary FM tent for an interview with our very own Allison Brock!
Folk Fest is definitely one of the best and most unique festivals to go to during the summer. What more can you ask for - You're outside, you have unbelieveable live music, great food....it's a perfect way to just mellow out. A couple of people that dropped by our BIG RED TENT to enter our draw for Great Big Sea tickets mentioned they camped out at the gates since 10:30 am just to make sure they got prime grass area in front of the main stage. The gates didn't even open until 4:30 pm! This is one of the only festivals where you will see people running from the gates to snag their piece of grass.
There is also a "Plate Recycling Program" in place - if you return your plates to the marked tents, you get $2 back. It's like money back in your pocket...only, you technically already paid the extra $2 when you bought your food, and by returning your plate you're getting your money back...
In keeping with going green, our Street Team has been giving out our 97.7 Calgary FM coffee mugs for your java jolt(s). So if you're heading down to Folk Fest this weekend, make sure to drop by our Big Red Tent located right across the mainstage. You can't miss us, and I've included a picture of it just in case.
A few handy tips and suggestions in case you'll be spending the day down at Prince's Island Park for the Folk Fest:
a) Dress in layers - this is Calgary afterall and you never can predict what the weather will turn into later in the day.
b) Have some bug spray handy, especially if you'll be on the grass as the sun goes down. I think I choked on a mosquito Friday night.
c) Drop by the 97.7 Calgary FM tent for a free mug and say "hi" to our Street Team - everyone loves free stuff and we'd love to see you!
d) Make sure to have fun!
That's about it for now - we'll be sure to test out all the food while we're down there and report back on what we've tried.
