City Council has finally decided on the future of the west leg of the LRT. The $700-Million project was approved months ago, but there was a lot of debate over the route. But last night, a decsion was finally made. The new line will run from Sunalta, traveling up the median of bow trail, and then continuing past 26th Street, carrying on to Westbrook Mall, where it will go under ground, before ending at 69th Street SW.
City Council gave its final approval for an increase in cab rates yesterday. Calgary cabbies asked the city to grant a basic fare increase of 12%. Taxi rates have not changed in three years.
Speaking of which -- how does a $1.50 for a litre of gas sound? Revolting and unbelieable? Well, gas prices in Montreal have topped $1.50 -- and you know that means we'll be paying that eventually. Yesterday in Calgary, prices at the pump were at $1.33.9 at some stations.
The Town of Okotoks has taken the first step in becoming the first Alberta community to ban smoking in vehicles with children inside. The public will get a chance to discuss the issue on June 23rd, then council will make a final decision after that.
I-B-M says its new supercomputer is the fastest ever. It says if every person on Earth worked on a hand-held computer 24 hours a day, it would take them 46 years to do what the new Roadrunner computer can do in one day.
