Emergency crews are working to clean up a leak from an oil pipeline under the Red Deer River. The leak left an oily sheen on Glennifer Lake, 33 kilometres downstream. Brad Smith with Pembina Pipeline the company that owns the leaking line says they found out about the leak Sunday morning. Between 75 and 125 barrels of oil escaped. Pembina doesn't know how the leak happened or how much of the oil has been recovered.
The insurance industry wants a 37% hike in mandatory auto premiums as two days of hearings start today in Calgary to determine rates for the coming year. Just to do the math for you, a 37% rate hike would work out to roughly 225-dollars a year for the average Alberta driver.
Another human foot has washed up on B-C's island shores, adding to a growing mystery of where they're coming from and to whom they belong. But this one is a left foot. In the past year, four other feet have washed ashore. They were all right feet and were wearing shoes and socks.
Air Canada will cut up to 2-thousand jobs at the end of this year as it sharply reduces capacity to deal with the rising cost of fuel. A 7% reduction in capacity in its fall and winter schedule will mean it will need less staff to operate the airline. Air Canada president Montie Brewer calls the job losses `painful,' but says the airline needs to reduce flying time to stay profitable.
