Record high oil prices and a booming population pushed Alberta's budget surplus to $4.6 billion in the 2007-08 fiscal year - despite record spending. It's the 3rd biggest surplus in Alberta's history. Government officials admit that with oil now trading at more than $130 a barrel, a lot more money is yet to come.
The mayor wants to set the record straight on so called dirty oil. Dave Bronconnier is extending an invitation to a delegation of U.S. mayors to get the facts on the oilsands by coming to Calgary. That after the council passed a resolution this week, calling for american cities to ban the use of our oil in municipal government fleets.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper is going to do a minor cabinet shuffle -- but one move will be a major one. Harper is expected to officially fill the foreign affairs position today with International Trade Minister David Emerson. He has been doing that job since Maxime Bernier left in disgrace last month.
The death toll in shootings at a plastics plant in Henderson, Kentucky has grown to six, including the gunman. The rampage came after an employee had an argument with a supervisor. The employee got a handgun during a break, shot the supervisor and then opened fire in the break room before killing himself.
