100-Calgarians are now officially Canadians. The country's latest citizens come from countries ranging from Albania to Zimbabwe. They were officially sworn in at a ceremony at Prince's Island Park Tuesday morning. The Judge presiding over the event, told the new Canadians that they are now part of something bigger than themselves.
Imagine 45 millimetres (or 2 inches) of rain falling in about 20-minutes. That's what happened in Lethbridge, and a state of emergency was declared there yesterday because of it. The deluge caused sewage to overflow into the Oldman River. Health officials say residents shouldn't drink or bathe in untreated water.
The appointment of Henry Morgentaler to the Order of Canada is pleasing some, and angering others. Morgentaler is best known for taking the issue of abortion rights all the way to the Supreme Court, making Canada the only western democracy with no laws of any kind against abortion. The Order of Canada is the country's highest civilian honour to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement.
And it appears that Canadians are stealing the American dream. A new study by Maclean's magazine found that over all we are just happier than our neighbours.According to the study, the average Canadian is now 30 per cent wealthier than their southern neighbour. Canadians are living longer, we have less diseases and we are more adventures in bed. We also drink more, take more vacations and spend more time with family, and on average our personal debt is under control compared Americans.
