City police investigating the latest murder of the year. It happened around 8:30 Saturday night on Centre Street North. At least a dozen gunshots were heard in the area and a short time later a black SUV was discovered smashed into a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are not confirming it, but the man is apparently a well-known Asian gang member. This is Calgary's 18th murder of 2008.
No reports of injuries or major damage from a toronado that touched down just north of Airdrie yesterday afternoon. It happened just after 4:30pm, about 5-kilometres north of that city. A tornado warning was issued for the area, along with several thunderstorm warnings for various towns in and around Calgary.
Smart, generous and kind. That's how Private Colin Wilmot's peers are remembering him. Yesterday, the Edmonton-based medic became the 87th Canadian soldier to die in the Afghanistan mission since 2002, when he was killed by an explosion while on foot patrol near Kandahar city.
Toyota's ecological Prius gas-electric hybrid will reportedly become even greener next year. Apparently the Prius will come with solar-powered air conditioning on some of the high-end models.
And police are investigating some mischief on the Stampede Grounds. Sunday morning around 7:30 a.m. someone opened several donkey pens in the Agricultural building.
None of the donkeys left the building, but one did suffer a minor injury. (cops haven't yet found the jack-asses responsible!)
