It was a tragic weekend on the roads this past Heritage Day weekend. Last night, a 29-year old woman was killed, after a car backed out of a northeast Saddleridge driveway, hit a house accross the street then shot back up the driveway and ran her over. The 24-year old driver and a 4-year old child both suffered minor injuries. Also Sunday night, a 19-year old woman was killed, when the motorbike she was a passenger on, slammed into an SUV. Earlier in the weekend, 7-people were injured in 2-separate accidents on the Trans Canada. A crash early sunday killed 2 andf injured 6, after a van tried to get away from police and slammed into two other vehicles. And finally, a Calgary woman riding a motorbike was injured when she slammed into a grizzly, while riding in k-country. The bear died.
A court appearance today for the man accused in a horrific killing aboard a Greyhound bus in Manitoba. Today a judge is expected to decide whether Vince Weiguang Li will be sent for a psychiatric evaluation. He's charged with second-degree murder in the brutal stabbing death of 22-year-old Tim McLean.
A law enforcement official says John (Junior) Gotti has been arrested on charges linking him to three New York murders. The 44-year-old Gotti was arrested by the F-B-I at his Long Island home. The official says federal authorities in Tampa, Florida, are expected to announce a racketeering indictment, charging Gotti with murder conspiracy in connection with killings in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
A 6.0 earthquake has hit China's Sichuan province, which was devastated by a more powerful quake in May. This is the latest of numerous aftershocks from the original 7.9 quake that killed almost 70-thousand people and left 5-million homeless. The quake hit just hours after the olympic torch left the area on its final stop before the Beijing games kick off on Friday.
The price of crude oil and the value of our dollar are sharply down in overseas trading this morning. Oil prices dropped another 2-bucks overnight, to below 120 dollars U-S a barrel -- after a 4-dollar plunge yesterday.
