Police say Calgary's latest murder is likely gang related, and pre-meditated. A 20-year old man was shot numerous times on the front lawn of a northeast Saddleridge home early yesterday morning. Witnesses have identified the man as Robbie Jones, and say he was running for his life at the time. Police are investigating a possible gang connection. This is Calgary's 24th murder of the year.
A plumber doing renovations in a southwest Calgary home sparked an explosion that ripped the back off a duplex. The blast happened yesterday when the contractor mistakenly drilled through a gas line. A woman, her 15-year-old son and the plumber suffered minor injuries. The house will likely have to be torn down.
As grocery stores and shoppers scramble to get tainted meat out of their fridges, Maple Leaf Foods Toronto processing plant is getting a major cleaning. Maple Leaf announced a major recall of 23 of its packaged meat products, as public health officials investigate a nationwide bacterial outbreak. One person has died, and at least 16 others are sick.
3-days of mourning have begun in Spain, where 153 people died yesterday in a fiery plane crash. Only 19 people survived when the jet slammed to the ground and burst into flames shortly after takeoff from Madrid. Only 14-bodies have been identified, because most victims were burned beyond recognition.
