6-people were taken to hospital yesterday after a crane smashed thru the front window of a northwest Calgary c-train. It seems the crane operator started working earlier than scheduled and hit the moving c-train near the Brentwood station, de-railing it and sending about 36-passengers flying. 6-passengers, including a child and the train's driver, were taken to hospital, but none of the injuries is considered life-threatening.
After a year-long investigation, Calgary police have rounded up 14-suspected gang members, who are facing more than 100-charges. After executing 25-search warrants throughout the city, police seized numerous weapons and illegal drugs. They also found bullet-proof vests, night-vision equipment, brass knuckles and a Taser. Police also seized 4-homes, numerous high-end vehicles, jewelry and 75-thousand dollars in cash. Cops say this is a major blow to organized crime in Calgary.
3-children under the age of 10 were treated for smoke inhalation yesterday, after a fire was started in the van they were sitting in. The kids were left alone while their parents were inside the Lethbridge courthouse. The small fire burned the floor of the van, but was put out by firefighters. Investigators later found a lighter in the back seat. Childrens services is investigating.
It comes 45-years to the day after Martin Luther King Junior's ``I Have a Dream'' speech. Barack Obama will formally accept the Democratic presidential nomination tonight -- the first black man to claim it. 70-thousand are expected at Denver's Mile High Stadium to hear Obama give his acceptance speech.
And another in a series of earthquakes has occurred on the sea floor off the coast of B-C. The latest quake had a magnitude of 6.1 and struck about 160 kilometres off the north coast of Vancouver Island.
